As The Days

Where did the spirit go?
Why did it disappear today, I really want to know
When it was last year it was so much fun
It was so much better when we were young

Holidays aren't as much fun
As the days when we were small, naïve and young

Remembering the days of surprise
Excitement and joy shining bright in our eyes
Back in the time it was acceptable to whine
And it was easy to share all the things that were mine
Back to the years before insecurity
When life was carefree, and I still loved me

Turn the clock back to an innocent age
Read backwards through the book to the very first page

But now there's no snow on the ground
And Santa Clause is nowhere to be found
Whether it's "Silent Night" or "Dreidle, Dreidle, Dreidle"
It doesn't matter but the tears still come later

Let us return to those earlier years
When everything was simple and we never felt fear
Because now the weather's too warm
So forget the idea of a blizzard or a snowstorm
Whether it's "Deck the Halls," or "Light the Menorah"
Reading the Bible or reciting the Torah

Holidays just aren't as fun
As those years when we were young
Holidays aren't as fun
As the years of the innocent and the young
